Introducing the HPB-8: Introducing the Extreme High-Power Burn-In System

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 2, 2025

(Minneapolis, MN) – Micro Control Company, a global leader in burn-in and test systems for packaged devices, announces the release of the HPB-8 High-Power Logic Burn-In (HPB) with Test System. The HPB-8 is the next generation in Micro Control Company’s line of burn-in with test systems and is the most powerful and energy-efficient model to date. Offering extreme high-power capability for devices over 2,000 watts, the HPB-8 is designed for automation, reducing the handling of expensive artificial intelligence (AI) processors during burn-in cycles.

The HPB-8 sets a new standard for performance and efficiency. Each device under test (DUT) features individual temperature control (ITC), with twelve independent thermal zones per burn-in board, approximately 400 watts each, supported by advanced multi-zone thermal control. A larger 547 sq. in. burn-in board increases capacity to 12 or more DUTs per board, and with 16 boards per system, the HPB-8 can test more than 190 devices. Each DUT cell supports up to 240 watts of dedicated heater power (with six devices per board), ensuring precise thermal management even under extreme load conditions.

With more than 2,000 watts per DUT and 8,000 watts per slot, the HPB-8 delivers the power required for today’s most demanding processors. A redesigned digital bulk power supply improves efficiency to as high as 95 percent, while an energy-saving idle mode and C-Breez™ automatic blower control lower overall power use without reducing performance.

The system’s electrical architecture adds even more strength, integrating high-current and low-current regulators for stable power delivery, supporting deep vector memory (up to 256M), and offering 128 I/O channels with 1.25-nanosecond timing resolution. Testing speeds reach 10 MHz in parallel mode and 40 MHz in scan mode, with high-frequency clocks up to 350 MHz.

Built for automation, the HPB-8 supports Tier 4 – Process Auto capability with 16-slot batch operation. Customers can choose a stand-alone configuration (1:6 to automatic loader unloader (ALU)) for medium-cycle burn-in, or a fully integrated system (1:1 to ALU) for rapid, fast-cycle production. In both cases, an automated guided vehicle (AGV) transfers burn-in boards at 0.75 m/s, enabling operator-free loading, consistent cycle times, and reduced handling errors—providing the flexibility to scale operations and optimize throughput.
