Our Founders

Harold and Eleanor Hamilton founded Micro Control Company at their kitchen table in Columbia Heights, Minnesota in 1972. The business focused on engineering consulting and manufacturing digital test equipment for the electronics industry. For its first 3 years, Micro Control Company transacted business out of the Hamilton’s home with 4 other employees. In 1976, Micro Control Company was incorporated as a Minnesota corporation with Harold and Eleanor Hamilton as co-owners, and it moved to the Main Street NE location in suburban Minneapolis.

Beginning as a designer of automatic test equipment for testing memory boards and devices, the microprocessor-controlled test system designed and produced by Harold in 1973 was the first in the industry. By 1974, Micro Control had expanded into testing complex logic chips. In 1976, deliveries of burn-in systems for memory devices began. The burn-in and environmental stressing of electronic devices grew steadily as a substantial area of business.

In 1999, Micro Control Company developed the first High-Power Burn-In with Test System with active thermal control. With continuing research and the development of products for high-power burn-in applications, Micro Control has become the world’s leading manufacturer of burn-in with test solutions for high-power devices.

Today, Micro Control Company provides advanced burn-in solutions for the worldwide semiconductor industry. Along with the high-power burn-in and test systems for packaged logic and memory devices, Micro Control designs and builds burn-in boards and other burn-in accessories.

Beyond the System

Micro Control Company began building burn-in systems with algorithmic pattern generation in 1976, but this system was only the start. Over time, we have grown the solutions around a burn-in system: burn-in boards engineered for each device, engineering development stations, carts and mobile workstations, and partnering with an automation provider to move high-value devices through the process with minimal handling. Today, customers can collaborate with a single team for the complete turnkey solution; system, boards, accessories, and automation, designed, built, and supported together. It is a more complete answer to a harder problem: not just burning in devices but doing it with the accuracy and efficiency modern semiconductor production demands.

Our Home in Arden Hills

In 2026, Micro Control Company opened a new headquarters in Arden Hills, Minnesota, a purpose-built, 157,000-square-foot facility designed for the way we work today. Engineering, manufacturing, and testing share one roof, built to support the higher-power systems and automation our customers depend on. Its geothermal energy, solar-ready roof, and EV charging make it one of the most sustainable facilities of its kind, and a foundation for the company’s next chapter.
